EVALUASI RASIONALITAS PENGGUNAAN ANTIBIOTIK MENGGUNAKAN METODE GYSSENS PADA PASIEN PNEUMONIA ANAK USIA 1-5 TAHUN DI BALAI BESAR KESEHATAN PARU MAKASSAR

Pneumonia remains one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality, particularly among children. Inappropriate antibiotic use may increase the risk of antimicrobial resistance, adverse drug reactions, and treatment failure. This study aimed to evaluate the rationality of antibiotic use among patients with pneumonia at the Makassar Center for Community Lung Health (Balai Besar Kesehatan Paru Makassar/BBKPM) in 2024 using the Gyssens method. This non-experimental study employed a descriptive design with a retrospective approach. Data were collected from the medical records of patients who met the inclusion criteria, and samples were selected using purposive sampling. The rationality of antibiotic use was assessed based on the Gyssens classification. The results showed that 73% of antibiotic prescriptions were classified as rational (Category 0), while 27% were classified as irrational, consisting of Category III B (12.5%), Category IV A (9.4%), and Category IV B (4.7%). Most antibiotic use among pediatric pneumonia patients at the Makassar Center for Community Lung Health (BBKPM Makassar) met the criteria for rational antibiotic use based on the Gyssens method. However, inappropriate duration of therapy and suboptimal antibiotic selection were still identified. Therefore, periodic evaluation of antibiotic use is recommended to maintain and improve the quality of antibiotic therapy in accordance with current clinical guidelines.
